Beautiful Beach Hair… without the Beach

Aquis Waffle Luxe Hair Turban

I’ve been meaning to write about this simple, yet amazing towel for drying hair that is my latest obsession. Say hello to…

AQUIS Lisse Luxe Hair Turban ($30) and the AQUIS Waffle Luxe Hair Turban (Price ($40) which are made with an innovative fabric woven from ultra-fine fibers called AQUITEX. Why is this important? Frizz, my friends. It helps to eliminate what drying your hair with a regular terry cloth towel produces. The lightweight material has superior water-wicking capabilities that is gentle on your hair. The Lisse is designed for delicate hair, while the Waffle is designed for thicker hair. Either one you choose, these turbans quickly and gently dry to a damp stage, with less friction, minimizing damage. I have curly hair so I love the fact that I can run my fingers through my hair to ‘comb’ it while in the shower, apply product and wrap. My hair has definitely been less frizzy and it’s so much easier than trying to tie a towel on my head.

Travel Beauty Picks 2017

I’ve been a fan of French skincare line, Decleor, since my early days doing research and working in beauty selling advertising in Elle and Vogue, so when I tested out some new products that looked perfect for travel and (work travel) deprived skin, I had to see what they were all about. Decleor really focuses on high caliber essential oils and purification that feels perfectly Parisian… in simplicity and sophistication. Here are my two wins ready for your carry-on.

Decleor Aromessence Marjolaine Serum

I’ll say this right off the bat. Even though it’s formulated for dry or very dry skin, it’s the kind of elixir that you can also put on oily or combination skin without breaking out. We LOVE ’em. With 100% pure essential Oils, this daytime serum has a refreshing scent that delivers intense and instant nourishing, while also regulating lipid production. The serum contains Marjolaine, Lavender, Myrrh, Rosemary, and Orange Peel Essential Oils to soothe inflammation, brightens dull complexion, dehydrate, and promotes elasticity and firmness. Use in the morning after cleansing by warming just two drops (that’s all you need!) in the palm of the hands, gently applying over the face and neck, and following with skin care cream. Plus, it smells delicious.  Price: $73

Decleor Aroma Purete Imperfections Roll On

Our other top pick is this portable little roller ball treatment for blemishes that packs well, doesn’t need to be checked, and cleansed my weary traveler skin to reduce those red acne spots I get from changes in latitudes, attitudes, and hormones. The refreshing formulation (with my favorite scent, Madagascan Ylang Ylang), soothed my skin while on – or off – a flight. Other ingredients include Sage, Rosemary, Lavender and Lemon Essential Oils to give the skin (and nose) a sense of health and freshness. A perfect little pick-me-up to leave skin purified and clean. I followed the directions to apply to blemishes 4 to 5 times a day and definitely noticed a difference. Just make sure you remember to do it often. The portable size helps with that as it easily slips in a handbag and, I’ll admit, it was really enjoyable to use as the natural aromatherapy oils give the olfactory senses a boost, which in turn stimulates the brain and mood. Price $32.

A Shopping Treat: Babalu, Miami

Miami Best Shopping

Babalu

It’s a rare treat when you find a retail experience that excites you with seemingly simple items like toothpaste. Anyone who’s had a ball at the original Babalu Miami location on the famed 1111 Lincoln Road, one of the world’s most renowned retail and dining spots designed by Herzog & De Meuron, understands Babalu is no ordinary store.
We like it because it’s a glamorous conceptual twist on the ubiquitous hotel sundries shop, the curated selection begins with classed-up, sassed-up basics at a high design level —think crème de la crème of categories as common as toothpaste and chewing gum. All perfectly finished off with Babalu’s signature deluxe gift wrap program. If Babe Paley and the other society swans got together to open a convenience store, this would be the place.

It brings out the kid in the candy store as a true point of discovery with a continually evolving brand assortment and merchandising concept. A typical visit may offer Missoni, Comme Des Garcons, Alexandra von Furstenberg and Paul Smith, among other coveted brands, as well as emerging and exclusive designers. Merchandise weaves in organic apothecary products, resort wear, fine and costume jewelry, hair accessories, small leather goods, travel, sunglasses, fragrances, books, house wares, pet items, beach towels and gifts from big-ticket purchases to a little something special for one’s host.

I don’t know what these are (lighters?), but I want them!

John Rawlins, the former creative director for retail design at Bergdorf Goodman who designed the original Babalu, was brought on board to also design the Palm Beach location. And shoppers aren’t the only ones enjoying themselves. Melvin and Ambu have made it their mission to source stylish, fresh, often wild, wares. They couldn’t be happier partaking in a lifelong shopping spree.
Power-packed grab-and-go sophistication, for you, the sassy kid in the candy store.
